ARTernative is a street art festival which is taking place in Pärnu for the first time with the aim of showcasing alternative culture that enriches and enlivens urban space. The venue is a garage complex located by the cycling and walking track between the Mai and Beachside districts, which will be given a new look by artists from Estonia and abroad. All visitors will be able to try aerosol stencilling in the workshop following the advice of experts.

At 13:00 on 23 July, as part of the festival, two films about street art and street culture will be shown at the HUUB Pärnu Youth and Innovation Centre (Akadeemia 5), followed by panels on street art led by street artists, other representatives of alternative culture and cultural researchers. Topics such as art as a form of expression, art vs vandalism, social responsibility and art, the responsibility of the artist, the responsibility of art before society and the aims of street art and its impact on the urban environment, on people and urban development will be discussed. Sirje (Sirla) Joala, a street artist and entrepreneur and the chief organiser of the Stencibility Street Art Festival, and Kersti Joala, a street artist and the leader of the SLÄP sticker bus, will be performing.
