MARITA ISOBEL SOLBERG (MaRa)B.1977, Tromsø, NorwayMarita is a chanter, a musician and a visual artist focusing on sound, performance art and installation. She has throughout her upbringing been surrounded by meaningful materials closely related to nature, crafts and seasonal work, and exploring artistic expressions, singing and different musical genres since childhood. Growing up in Manndalen in North-Troms, Norway, she was from an early age exposed to traditions and people from the world through the festival Riddu Riđđu, her ancestors are a blend of many northern peoples; Sámi, Swedish, Kven, Karelian and Finnish. Marita studied art at Nordland Kunst and Filmschool (1997-1999) and at the Oslo National Academy of Arts/KHIO (2002-2007). With a base in Tromsø, Norway, she lives a nomadic life on the Norwegian and international art scene. Her strong connections to Northern-Norway, she has done commision work; conserts, performances and exhibition work at Musikkfestuka in Nordland, the Riddu Riđđu Festival, BarentsSpektakel, Bukta Open Air Festival, The Arctic Arts Festival, North Norwegian Art Museum and the fictional Sámi Daiddamusea. The common denominator for her projects is the intention to challenge the audience as well as herself, to try reaching into the core and create vibrations that have repercussions.
